TY Millinery Workshop

As is the usual in TY, on Tuesday the 10th of November, we got to experience something a little different in the art department. Thanks to a grant from the government, and Ms.Fahy, TYB had the first of two workshops in the art of hat making. The workshop was hosted by Sinead Madden of Sinead Madden Millinery. Under her guidance we learned how to make bases for hats, which we will later decorate. We also made fascinators, which the whole class enjoyed and were surprised with how professional they looked. As everybody used a variety of techniques, no two hats were the same. A range of materials and colours were available to choose to make your hat from. The workshop was also interesting for those taking part in the Junk Kouture competition and many ideas were thought of on how each costume can be improved. The skill of thermoplastics which will be taught on day two of the workshop will be particularly useful. In October of 2016, a few representatives from the class will be chosen to go with our hats to an exhibition of different artworks in Colin’s barracks in Dublin where government ministers and the president will be present. All in all the class enjoyed the day and are looking forward to day two of the workshop where more skills will be learnt.
