Transition Year Cliff Walk 2017

Transition Year students completed Scoil Mhuire’s annual Cliff Walk as part of their Gaisce award. We started our overnight venture at 9.30am Wednesday morning when we were collected from school and taken to Fanore. With the help of dry, cool weather, Mr Quinn and our guide Ben, we managed to walk along the rocky coast to Doolin Pier in three hours. Once we caught a glimpse of civilisation at the Doolin Pier, we were delighted and ready for a rest before our next adventure.

We stayed the night in Doolin Hostel, where sleep was scarce, but we were fuelled for the next twenty kilometre trek. After an early breakfast, we headed off again at 9.30am and walked to the Cliffs of Moher. We managed to persevere through the muck caused by the morning’s showers. At the Cliffs, we received a light snack, and with some glum faces we set off towards Hag’s Head and Liscannor. The strong winds may have tried to knock our spirits, but we continued and reached Liscannor where we got the bus back to school. Everyone was ecstatic to see Pete MacNamara at this stage.

After two full days of hiking in rough terrain, we felt a sense of achievement for completing a twenty-eight kilometre walk. We also managed to get know others in our new classes that we hadn’t had the chance to bond with before. This experience allowed us to do so.

Thanks to Ben, Mr Quinn, Mrs McGann, Mrs Butler, Ms Torpey and all at Doolin Hostel for making this trip possible. We can all say that we benefitted enormously from this experience.
