Top of The Class

Scoil Mhuire Secondary School, Ennistymon has topped the charts in Co. Clare in the Sunday Times ‘Definitive Guide to Ireland’s Top 400 Schools’. This league table ranks the top 400 schools in Ireland according to progression to University and is based on the average proportion of pupils gaining places in autumn 2012,2013 and 2014 at one of the nine universities, main teacher training colleges, Royal College of Surgeons or National College of Art and Design. The survey named Scoil Mhuire as the number 1 facility in County Clare for pupils going forward to study at university. The school rose 8 places on its previous rank to be rated number 38 out of 400. This is a wonderful achievement for the school considering 21 of the 37 schools ranked ahead of Scoil Mhuire are fee paying schools. The second highest ranked school in County Clare is Colaiste Mhuire Ennis coming in at number 82. Notably, it was also an all-girls non fee paying school, Colaiste Laurel Hill, Limerick which topped the table. The table showed that 87.9% of the students of Scoil Mhuire progressed to third level with 70% attending university. The school took 18th place in the table of top girls’ schools in the country. Scoil Mhuire has always had a good reputation, attracting students for its extra-curricular activities as well as its academic prowess. In Scoil Mhuire there is an expectation that students will reach their highest potential with support from family, dedicated teachers, and the school community and being a relatively small school, the needs of individual students are met, thereby contributing to its success.
