Team Hope Christmas Shoebox Appeal Update
Well done and thanks to all those who supported to Christmas Shoebox Appeal. It is fantastic to see such kindness in our school community.
Below is an email we received from Team Hope with an update:
Dear friends, > > Delighted to let you know that we shipped the amazing total of 7,072 shoeboxes from Clare to Lesotho, South Africa last Friday. The container truck was loaded with the generous help of staff from Modular Automation, Shannon and TY students from Rice College, Ennis. See photos attached. > > Despite its small size, Lesotho is one of the poorest countries in the developing world. Twenty four percent of the adult population are now living with HIV/AIDS, which is the third highest rate in the world. With such high rates it is no surprise that 25% of all children aged 5 to 14 are now involved in the work force. > > Lesotho has a temperate climate with hot summers and cold winters. Temperatures can get as low as -7 in winter. The hats, gloves, socks, scarves etc. that children put into the shoeboxes will be much appreciated. The school supplies will help get the shepard children off the hills and into the classroom. > > Many thanks to you for co-coordinating this appeal. A huge thank you to all the school staff, children and their parents/guardians for their generous support. > > Kind regards, > Susanne Ward.
