Student Enterprise Awards Information Day

On Tuesday 22nd of September both TY classes travelled to Ennis to attend a talk on enterprise and starting a business. Schools from across the county attended the event in the West County Hotel. Most of us did not know what to expect, but we were quickly informed by the event’s enthusiastic host, Theresa Mulvihill. The event was run by the Local Enterprise Office in Clare.

The event was held with the intention of inspiring the next generation of young entrepreneurs and business owners. It was also to get the various TY students started on their entries for the Student Enterprise Awards. We watched videos of past entries and winners of the competition to show us of the standard required, which is high. The contestants ranged from people who made their own board game to a student who started their own bag printing company. There was also an opportunity for anyone with questions to voice them. To help students with everything from report writing to marketing, workbooks and a copy of the PowerPoint presentation were given to all students. This information was intended to help with the competition but can also be used by students far into the future. Regina Tierney of the company, Celtic Fusion was present and ready with advice and also answered questions on the running of a business. She also encouraged students with an idea or hobby to start their own business and provided information on how to go about this.

A free lunch was provided for us and the event finished with the importance of team work and a few final hints and tips. We left the premises at half past twelve and the class group arrived back to Scoil Mhuire in time for the last three classes, much to the disappointment of most of the students!!
