Doodle for Google – congratulations Emma!

Congratulations to Emma Clancy who has been selected as semi finalist in Doodle4Google art competition. 300 were selected nationally and now these will be shortlisted to 75 and then open to public voting.

Doodles are the spontaneous changes that are made to the Google logo in celebration of holidays, anniversaries and the lives of famous artists, pioneers and scientists who have helped shape history.

In 1998 Google’s founders placed a stick figure drawing behind the second ‘o’ in the word Google as a message to users that they were “out of the office” attending a music and art festival. From there the idea of decorating the logo to mark cultural moments was born.

Since 1998 there have been over 2,000 (and counting!) doodles on the Google home pages around the world. You can see them all at www.google.com/doodles or catch one on your Google home page.

The theme to this year’s Doodle for Google competition, where students were asked to design their own Doodle, was “Ireland is…” and we wish Emma the best of luck as the competition progresses.
