Cross Country

On the Thursday, the 16th of November some of our school’s top runners travelled to Lees Road in Ennis with Ms Collins to compete in the Clare Schools Cross Country competition.Three of our sixth years competed; Aoibheann, Sinéad, and Jane entered the senior section, and this is their sixth year in a row doing cross country! The newer runners in the school are Katie Meehan, Elisha Twomey and Caoimhe McMahon. They are all fantastic runners and along with the other girls did Scoil Mhuire proud in Ennis.

The convent arrived at the Clare Schools at 10, after leaving in the morning at 9.30. In the morning much to the surprise of well, all of the Clare Schools probably, the weather had taken a turn for the better. The sky was as close to blue as you would ever get at cross country, which was grey, and it didn’t rain all day, the whole team were elated.

The first race of the day was the minor girls race.Taking part for Scoil Mhuire were Elisha Twomey, Katie Meehan and Caoimhe McMahon. The girls all ran a great race with all three finishing in the top 25, and securing 4th place in the teams out of the whole county.

The next event was the Junior Ladies, Emily Woods and Rosalina Mongans were up for Scoil Mhuire. Although they didn’t have enough people to make a team, both girls represented the school excellently.

Hannah Shannon, Amy Shannon and Ciara Malone ran next in the intermediate girls category. This race was 3 and a half kilometers long! This race was the longest women’s distance race and all three girls finished in the top 30.

The last race, Senior Ladies had runners Aoibheann Fahy, Sinéad Hogan, and Jane Murphy from Scoil Mhuire. The girls ran to the best of their ability and finished 3rd in the teams category.

All of these terrific results could not have been achieved without Ms Collins, who supported the

teams throughout the day and encouraged them to do as well as they possibly could.
