Atlantic Youth Project
Transition Year students were busy last week participating in the 3rd Atlantic Youth Project. The girls enjoyed a video conference with Dr. Noirin Burke (Galway Aquarium and Irish Ocean Literacy Network) about Ocean Erosion, Biodiversity and Tides and a second Zoom Meeting on Ocean Conservation and Pollution. Dr. Simon Berrows of the Irish Whale and Dolphin Group hosted a presentation on the Shannon dolphin and whale .
Atlantic Youth is an Erasmus project, the purpose of which is to encourage maritime education initiatives for young people. Our students discussed lots of reasons why the Atlantic Ocean is important to them and the types of careers they can train for, before exploring their vision for the Atlantic Ocean and the Clare coastline in 2050.
This project is also running with students from Scarriff Community College and because of Covid restrictions all students cannot participate in the same manner simultaneously. While our students will experience an activity face to face the Scarriff students will join in vis video conferencing (and vice versa). We are delighted both schools and all students are still
able to benefit from this fantastic programme.
