All Ireland Linguistics Olympiad

Well done to the Scoil Mhuire students who participated in the Preliminary Round of the All Ireland Linguistics Olympiad on Monday, January 25th, 2021. Students from 61 schools took part from all over the island. Congratulations to Amelia Braja who has qualified for the final. The top 100 students take part in the National Final which will be held on Wednesday 10th March 2021.

AILO is a contest in which secondary school students develop their own strategies for solving problems in fascinating languages from around the world. They must use their ingenuity to solve puzzles such as deciphering Egyptian hieroglyphics, decoding numerical spy codes and interpreting ancient Mayan poetry. It links computing, linguistics and language.

Best of luck Amelia.
