A Message from the Principal in relation to School Closure

Dear Parents,

As announced by Leo Varadkar Scoil Mhuire will remain closed until 29 March 2020.

Please impress on your daughter the need to practice social distancing and to minimise social interaction during the school closure to support efforts to stop the spread of Covid-19 infection.

‘All pupils and students, from pre-school to third level are urged to practice social distancing, and to minimise physical contact with each other, to help avoid the spread of Covid-19. This should include minimising social contact, avoiding meeting up and keeping physical space between them. Parents and guardians are urged to support their children to maintain this approach’. Minister For Education

‘We have one opportunity to get this right – the only way to stop the spread of Covid-19 infection is to stop all interaction outside of household contacts. It is vital that social contact is avoided by children and young people. We know that children and young people act as vectors of this virus- they can transmit infection to vulnerable members of society. My opinion is that children should avoid contact with elderly peopleDr. Anne M McLoughlin, Consultant in Respiratory Medicine, St. James’ Hospital

Teachers will make best effort to plan lessons and support learning during school closure. Examination classes will be prioritised. Online materials and resources will be forwarded to students. Teachers addressed students regarding arrangements in their particular subjects prior to our school closing. It is important that your daughter accesses resources and lessons as guided by teachers (Google Classroom, Google Meet, Gmail etc). Arrangements regarding submission of assignments will be notified by teachers.

Please encourage your daughter to maintain the structure of school days during the period of closure – this is best practice and routine is the healthiest approach to this period of social distancing.

I have no doubt that our students will be in contact by telephone and social media. I have great confidence that they will provide wonderful support and friendship for each other – this is very important.

Be assured of our very best attention to your daughter’s wellbeing as well as our best efforts to support continuity of learning. Do not hesitate to contact me if you have any queries or concerns seosaimhin
