Staff vs Students Match Causes Controversy!

17th May 2011
Congratulations to the Staff team who won the recent Staff vs. Students Basketball match. The Leaving Cert class of 2012 put up a good battle for the teachers but they just weren't strong enough with a score of 10 - 7 at 'full time'. There was a bit of controversy as the match had to be stopped after three quarters (instead of four) to allow the players eat lunch before the afternoon classes. The Leaving Certs felt this should have been considered as a forfeit by the staff team but their objection was overruled and the staff were proclaimed victorious!! Well done to all involved and thanks to Sarah Leigh for taking on the tough role of referee and as always thanks to Ms Eustace for organising it!

Chinese Language and Culture Enters Scoil Mhuire

2nd May 2012

Scoil Mhuire’s Chinese Studies Programme started in October 2011 offering
Mandarin Chinese classes to Transition Year students. The programme was developed
by the UCD Confucius Institute for Ireland under the guidance and support of the
Confucius Institute Headquarters and the National Council for Curriculum and
Assessment (NCCA). The Confucius Institute works with the Irish government,
businesses and academia to develop stronger educational, cultural and commercial
links between Ireland and China.
Scoil Mhuire is privileged to work with the UCD Confucius Institute and to offer our students what we believe is a wonderful opportunity to learn about China and to study Mandarin Chinese.
The Confucius Institute provides native Chinese speakers to teach Chinese language and Ms. Higgins delivers the Chinese culture classes to our students.
In addition to their language classes our students are presented with opportunities
to experiment with Chinese cookery, paper cutting, calligraphy and many other
activities.
